Fabio Centanni is a visiting professor at the Athenaeum Conservatoire.
He is one of the most sought-after collaborative pianists internationally, for both Italian Opera and Instrumental music. Born in Rome, he graduated from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in 1992 with full marks and honors.
Numerous teachers have contributed to his training, including Sergio Perticaroli, Pavel Gililov, Michele Campanella, Franco Scala, Piernarciso Masi, Felix Ayo, Germaine Mounier, teachers with whom he studied at the Accademia Chigiana of Siena, the “Mozarteum” Sommerakademie in Salzburg, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Incontri col Maestro Academy of Imola, and the Accademia Musicale in Pescara. Fabio has won numerous national and international competitions, including First Prize at the Competition of Terzo d’Acqui (Alessandria) in 1990, as well as First Prize at the National Piano Competition “City of Velletri”, Third prize at the “Città di Sulmona” in ternational competition in 1999, and the Critics Award at the 38th National Piano Competition “A. Speranza “of Taranto in 2000.
From 2001 to 2015 he worked as a piano accompanist at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He collaborated with Claudio Desderi (voice), Jacques Mauger (trombone), Guido Corti (horn), Carlo Tamponi and Andrea Oliva (flute), Gabriele Cassone and Andrea Lucchi (trumpet), Francesco Bossone (bassoon), and Domenico Nordio (violin.) In 2011, 2012, and 2017 he was also the piano accompanist of the violin course held by Prof. Sonig Tchakerian.
Since 2006, Fabio has worked alongside Italian soprano Renata Scotto, with whom he has worked both as pianist and teaching assistant (Operastudio Academy of S. Cecilia, Renata Scotto Opera Program Naples-Florida, Masterclass Ópera de La Coruña).
Between April 2006 and April 2008, he worked as Solo Repetiteur at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf-Duisburg, preparing numerous productions (L’Elisir d’amore, Der fliegende Hollaender, L’amour des trois oranges, Falstaff, Otello, Tosca, Giulio Cesare, Carmina Burana, Lucia di Lammermoor, Faust, Un ballo in maschera, La Bohème) and performing in various concerts. In December 2012 he worked at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, accompanying the production of Richard III by G. Battistelli.
He was a guest of the Verbier International Festival from 2009 to 2012 as accompanist of Masterclasses of Maestro Claudio Desderi on Mozart’s Don Giovan
ni (2009), of Maestra Nelly Miricioiu on Puccini’s La Bohème (2010), as performer in the performance of “Cosi fan tutte” by Mozart in version for piano and string quartet (2011) and finally as coordinator of piano masterclasses (2012).
Fabio is very active as both a Vocal Coach and a Lecturer at Universities and important International Institutions, including Estúdio Voce” di Rio de Janeiro (2011-2016), Universidade Federal do Belo Horizonte (2016), Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (2015), Casa da Cultura di Brasília (2015), Conservatoire National Supèrieur de Musique di Beyrouth-Libano (2013), Université Antonine di Beyrouth-Libano, Conservatorio di Sydney (2014).
In October 2010 he was the official pianist of the “Città di Brescia” International Violin Competition and since 2012 he has been the official pianist of the “A. Postacchini “International Violin Competition of Fermo.
He currently teaches the Chamber Music course at the “G.Pierluigi da Palestrina” Conservatory of Cagliari.
